Whilst I haven't read the book, I almost completely agree with your assesment of Brooker's angle on the character (as you present it). The only part of the review I have a problem with is your assertion that "Batman exists only in the form that his creators and editors allow." Literary critical analysis determines that a work is subject to a different reading from every person who examines the book, and once in a fixed form (i.e. finalised and printed), the creator's interpretation is only as valid as any other reader. The editorial attitude towards the character undoubtedly help determine the reading of the text for many people, but no reading can be discounted completely.
